SC10 Setup Tips

Team Associated did a much needed redesign of their website a few months ago. One practical improvement was that they made the Setup Sheets easy to find for the SC10.

In an organized table, they have listed a link to download the Setup Sheet, the name of the driver, the track the setup was used on, and the conditions of the track. They have SC10 setup tips for just about any racing surface.

I've been playing around with my SC10 setup recently, mostly changing...

I've been playing around with my SC10 setup recently, mostly changing shock springs, shock mounting positions, battery position, and gearing. One change I've been reluctant to make is changing the weight on my shock oil because that costs a little money and I don't even know where to start. Any recommendations on a good shock oil weight for my SC10? I race on a clay track with pretty good traction, lots of bumps and some good sized jumps.

Our Answer

The SC10 comes with 30wt shock oil for the front and rear shocks. 30wt shock oil will be fine for on-road driving, but for most off-road tracks you will want a heavier oil all the way around. If you are running on a clay track then you should try 35wt oil in the rear and 40wt oil in the front. This will add a more damping to your shocks which will provide more stability in turns and better performance when landing a big jump. Also, running a slightly heavier weight in the front shocks will provide better traction in the rear which will make the SC10 easier to drive for most drivers.

Just select "SC10" from the "Select your Truck" drop down on the left. A popular setup for shocks is the 40wt oil with gold springs in the front and 35wt oil with green springs in the rear. Hope this helps!

LiPo Battery and Charger Setup for SC10

This is fairly simple - GET A LIPO! LiPo's (Lithium Polymer batteries) are the best option for any RC'er. We strongly recommend getting a LiPo battery if you want to get the most out of your SC10. Lipo batteries provide more power, have a longer life, weigh less, and give you LONGER RUNTIMES.

Longer runtimes are the biggest advantage of LiPo batteries. One of the major knocks of electric RC is that you spend all this time fixing your vehicle and charging the batteries and then you only get to run your truck for 10 minutes. This is not true anymore. LiPo's now give you the option of running your truck for a solid 20-30 minutes (or more) with no detectable decrease in power before cutting off.

Checking and Regulating Motor Temperature

When running your SC10, you must be aware of motor temperature. Motors are expensive and if you let one get too hot, you may end up having to replace it. For many of you motor temp will not be a problem, but you should know that different track conditions or changes to your set up could cause your motor to get hotter than normal.

SC10 Front Sway Bar Mod

Adding a front sway bar to your SC10 can add stability and rigidity to the front of the truck making it easier to drive. If you run on a low traction and smooth surface, you can add more traction in turns with a front sway bar.

Tuning Toe-in and Camber on the SC10

For those new to RC, "toe-in" refers to the horizontal angle of the wheels. If the front side of your tires are pointed in towards the chassis, then you have "toe-in". If they are pointed away from the chassis, you have "toe-out".

RC Cheat Sheets iPhone App from Team Associated

Team Associated has come out with the RC Cheat Sheets iPhone App, their second iPhone application. The RC Cheat Sheets App is a comprehensive reference guide for every Team Associated car and truck. The app has tuning guides, various calculators, a lap counter, and unit conversion tools.

I went to buy it from the App store on my iPhone, but at $2.99 I had to think again. The reviews in the App store are all pretty good, praising the app for having tons of information and being extremely useful. I think I'll wait to see if it comes down a bit and then check it out.
